Temple President Ricardo Aespuro, a native of Los Angeles eastside communities since 1968, first attended B’nai Emet in 2004 and not only became a member of the Temple, he eventually became a member of the TBE Board. In 2022, he was elected Board President.
“The first time I attended Temple B'nai Emet, I felt I had found my religious home. The members are very welcoming, and Rabbi Pennes was a great teacher,” said Aespuro. “My mission, as we settle into our new home and new Spiritual Leader, is to see the Temple grow and be a vibrant, essential part of the communities we serve and live in.”
Ricardo, who attended both Cal State University at Los Angeles and East Los Angeles College and earned a degree in Business Administration, has been married for over 34 years to his wife Elvia, and their family now includes teenage grandchildren.

Shalom to all!
As we approach Shavuot, the harvest festival, and a time of abundance, we also remember that it marks the giving of the Ten Commandments to Israel. Temple B’nai Emet began in 1927 in East Los Angeles and moved to Montebello in 1950. From its inception, it has been a traditional Conservative temple. Our Rabbi, Sheldon Pennes, embodied and taught those Conservative values. The members of Temple B’nai Emet are committed to this path and its timeless ideals.
We would like to extend our gratitude to everyone who donated to the Matzah Fund. Temple B’nai Emet has sent a donation to MAZON, a national organization dedicated to ending hunger among people of all faiths and backgrounds in the U.S. and Israel. Thank you as well to all who contributed to The Book of Remembrance. Reminders have been sent to those who have not yet sent in their donations.
May HaShem bless us all with good health.
Ricardo Aespuro
